In 1966, the North-Central Section (NCS) was established by the Council of the Geological Society of America (GSA) to expand section coverage for all of the United States and Canada.
As of June 2005, the NCS had 1,956 voting members and 375 non-voting members (affiliate and undergraduate student members).
